Company History

1923

1923

In 1923, Mr. Elías Albala Franco was a member of one of the first generations of pharmaceutical chemists to have graduated from the Universidad de Chile. Just out of the university classroom, Mr. Elías Albala was to become the founder of Laboratorios Maver, today Chile's leading laboratory in production and sale of medications.

After intensely studying and analyzing different chemical combinations, Mr. Elias Albala developed a formula based on a blend of analgesics. Shortly thereafter, other pharmacies and drugstores became aware of the production and distribution of this new medication. Demand grew so quickly that Mr. Elías Albala had to set up operations in his own garage to keep up. Thus the famous analgesics known as Obleas Chinas ("Chinese Wafers") were born.

Obleas Chinas

This was the beginning of Li-Wu-Pat, a new drug which began to take over the shelves of Santiago's pharmacies. It was also the beginning of Laboratorios Maver, a company which today offers a wide range of therapeutic options with constant concern for the quality of its products. With its prestige already established, Laboratorios Maver continued to work on the production of pharmaceuticals recognized by consumers for their effectiveness and safety.

1962

1923

Along these innovative lines, Laboratorios Maver introduced DOLLYPEN in 1962, the first stick deodorant on the Chilean market. After that, Maver's cough syrups and the already-familiar antacids were introduced. That year, another event took place which had a positive influence on the history of the family business: a license was obtained to manufacture ENO. From that date forth Maver began to grow, thanks to the effective management of production, sales and marketing it applied to the then-unknown brand. Eno's success extended to 1999, in which year the brand owner brought the representation managed for three decades by Laboratorios Maver to a close.

1923

This was the spark that gave rise to the effervescent antacid DISFRUTA, perpetuating the successful management of the company and the profound market knowledge had by Laboratorios Maver. Under the laboratory's exclusive ownership, DISFRUTA is currently number one in sales on the Chilean market.

1996

1923

The TAPSIN brand experienced a similar progression. After years of business collaboration, Maver ended its representation of ANACIN in the 1990s. Thus, TAPSIN was born in 1996. Since that year, demand for the brand has only grown, becoming a staple of the Chilean family's basic medical supply kit. Since then, TAPSIN has been the subject of constant innovation. Laboratorios Maver has managed over 48 brands in more than 255 different product formats, aiming at a final goal with this degree of specificity: improving people's health.

1997

Oral Fresh

In 1997, the mouthwash ORALFRESH was introduced to the Chilean market, representing an effective and affordably priced option in this emerging segment of oral care. ORALFRESH Lamint Strips, an innovative way to freshen breath on the Chilean market, were launched in 2002. Later on, in 2003, ORALFRESH toothpastes were introduced under the same positioning strategy: functional, effective and high-quality products at affordable prices, which helped to strengthen the mass oral hygiene line of Laboratorios Maver. Today, the brand holds a significant share of this segment, and is recognized by consumers as a youthful brand demonstrating concern for the fresh breath of Chileans.

2003

Oral Fresh

On April 3rd, 2003, Laboratorios Maver inaugurated its new pharmaceutical plant in the distinguished presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Ricardo Lagos Escobar. Following strict ISO 9000 and GMP standards, it was the first plant built by the company since its inception.

Oral Fresh

That same year, Chile's Marketing Hall of Fame organization recognized Laboratorios Maver's Tapsin brand as one of the year 2003's iconic brands. In the case of Tapsin, this recognition was awarded under the CURRENT BRAND category (brands with less than 25 years on the market). With this recognition, Tapsin became the youngest brand ever to enter the national hall of fame.

2004

Oral Fresh

On July 22nd, 2004, Laboratorios Maver obtained GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification to manufacture its medication in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO), ensuring that products of the highest quality would be available to consumers. This certification is granted in Chile by the Public Health Institute (Instituto de Salud Pública, or ISP).

GMP certification means that all pharmaceuticals manufactured in our plant comply with the same quality standards as the laboratories certified worldwide under this standard.

2007

Oral Fresh

In 2007, a new milestone was reached at Laboratorios Maver with its Tapsin brand. After 12 years of constant innovation in products and publicity, together with a strong social responsibility program, Tapsin became the No. 1 brand in sales on the Chilean pharmaceutical market, surpassing brands belonging to multinational companies with over 100 years on the market.

2009

Oral Fresh

In 1995, Laboratorios Maver obtained representation of the Hawaiian Tropic brand, which soon became the leading brand in the sun protection category thanks to excellent management of marketing and sales. However, Hawaiian Tropic changed hands, and Maver's representation ended in 2008 after more than 10 years of successful management.

In the year 2009, Laboratorios Maver focused its efforts on its LEBLON SOLAR brand, counteracting the loss of Hawaiian Tropic.
Once again, Laboratorios Maver reinvented itself and launched the innovative

Continuous Sprays and Temptations lines on the sun protection market. Together with a wide variety of cream sunscreens and expertise at points of sale, this converted LEBLON SOLAR into the No. 1 brand in its category on the market.
